Fantasies and Favorites!

Anyone that's ever put their creative works out there has likely gotten feedback.  For some reason in our culture its deemed necessary to tell an artist, writer or musician the goods, the bads, and the uglies about their work.

For the most part I love the hell outta it.  I live for the days that I get simple messages like "love your books" and "Short, steamy, awesome!" But, honestly, I also love the days where I get "too short for my tastes" or "too much sex" (yup there is such a thing! haha.)  Lemme know what you like so I can tweak my methods!

So on days when I get a "Starred-favorite" memo from Smashwords I spend the rest of it fantasizing about what made me a favorite?  Did they like the over the top sex-scene to sex-scene continual action of my Cheerleader books or were they driven to that Favorite-marker by the softer more story driven pieces like My New Husband?  Is it my desire to provide quality when there's so much barely re-read, unedited junk out there?  Is it my 40 titles of a wide-variety?

Must admit that I am not 100% about the art.  I want to and do consider you guys, and challenge myself with "what's popular" (Like the babysitter and cheerleader eroticas).  I have even pushed myself through some Taboo-kinks at request from my readers.  But I always feel like my best are my favorites.  The ones that spend hours in my head begging to get out on the screen.

So what do I fantasize about?  Fantasy, BDSM, Rape, being taken care of, being controlled, and a bit of the princess stuff.  I love it when my daddy takes care of me, demands things of me, plays with me. So often its in ways that I don't even see myself, and that I think continually comes out of my pen.

Micah and Alysson in my Deep Series, they play probably two of the darkest and deepest parts of my world out.  Their story is the one that I told myself for years as  I was trying to sleep.

The other one is my Penance Series.  Charlie and Meredith are a regular Jane and John Doe couple, its only when pushed to the brink of divorce that they delve into something deep and dark between them.

Why do I have a love for the kink?  My husband and I started dabbling in kinkier stuff after about 4 years of being together, we'd seen enough in porn that we were both willing to try it.  But even after almost 13 years together he can still stir something so carnal within me the second he grabs me by the nape of the neck and growls.  Fantasy come to life.  Maybe that's why.  Maybe that's why I'll re-read and add more story, re-read and add more sex to those kinkier pieces.  Those pieces that link me to my darker more brazen self.

Maybe that's why people want to favorite me - I can link them to that particular dark part of themselves.  At least I hope I do.

Still A Fighter

I've been pretty excited about coming back. By pretty excited I mean shouting from the Facebook rooftops, announcing to anyone that visits my home, handing out cards in the supermarket, excited.

In all my excitement I have gotten many questions.  The standard is always "Oh does that pay well?"  The one I wasn't really prepared for, oddly enough, was also the one question that struck me most: Are you still an advocate for rape and all that kinky stuff?

My first comment is always FAUX-rape. FAKE. Rape that's clearly consensual, but plays with the battle of power.  Nothing pissed me off more than hearing about Brock's "20 minutes of action" and the despicable way the judge handled it.

My second is ALWAYS.

Erotica is something that taps into a baser level with many people, offering an outlet for their kink, offering a journey through often unexplored circumstances, fulfilling a desire that we are often to timid to explore in real life.

Erotica is also insanely the most censored. No one told Martin he couldn't be having brother and sister fucking. "Well its not the same thinggggggg, its such a small part of the story...." Uh, King dies, his wife's incest-born son claims the throne and all hell breaks loose? Intrinsic to the story in these author's eyes.  No one outcries Jacqueline Carey putting her main character Phedre` through months of living with a man that is raping and torturing her.  But because Phedre`'s blessed by the gods to handle kinky shit, so must be ok?  And lets not get started about necrophilia - sexy dead guys! HELL YES! Vampires everywhere, or bestiality!  Werewolves, Yummy! (Laurell K. Hamilton even got a bit much for me in my younger days!)

The only argument that I've ever come across that gave me pause against my "fight for non-censoring" is "But your books are for people to get off to.  You're trying to make something that's 'fringe' mainstream."  My "art" is porn.  And therefore must be censored.

I can't ever agree to that.

"But you have 3 daughters, aren't you afraid they'll grow up and be RAPED?!"  Yes.  I'm afraid that they will get their power taken away.  That they will emotionally and physically have to deal with someone else stripping them of power.  Whether its sexual or not.  I'm afraid they'll grow up in a world and have a president that makes callous remarks like "grabb'em by the pussy." and "And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything."

The difference is while I publish kinky shit, in declaring that I write Erotica, I have to alert my readers that my books are for the older audience.  I need to alert you that some of my books are offensive - or at least have the potential to offend someone.  I can't allow you to judge for yourselves if I'm too dirty for you, because Amazon, B&N, and many mainstream publishers won't let me.  I feel strongly that you, as an adult, should be able to decide what you want to read.  I feel strongly that you should have the CHOICE.

That's why I'm an advocate for Rape-Fantasy books to continue to be published.  For Taboo, and Babysitter/Barely-Legal.  Because you have the right to read it if you want.

Old Habits

Old habits die hard, as they say. Must admit though, I didn't realize how much of a habit I was in with Lesa, nor did I expect to ever step back into those habits as quickly as I have.

As I prepare to publish my first new title in 5 years I realize the depression I have been battling, the feeling that something was off can be greatly attributed to my writing, or lack there of. I have missed this. The self-expression. The connection with people that connect with me, if only through my kink. The assurance that I am doing what I have always dreamed of doing.

So why did I stop? Simply: Censorship.

Amazon and NookBook declared my "kinky fuckery" too much to be sold. Amazon pulled 18 of my books. Seven of which were my top sellers. All my babysitter books. Gone. All my rape fantasies. Gone. My taboo experiment.

It hurt.

It wasn't just about the money dropping by half. Every title I write has a connection to an inner part of me in a way that only creators might understand, and being told that a significant part of you is dirty or gross stings. Like bully on the playground sting. Like bottle it up for years talk about it in therapy sting.

But I digress.

The habits come smoothly back. Both the good and the bad. The good of "Entering my office" by turning on my music each day. The bad of checking sales first thing. The good of remembering all my formatting rules. The bad of fear of putting myself out there.

Today I'm focusing on my habits, acknowledging and giving them purpose.

I got this.

What 2017 Brings

Hello to friends and readers.

Its been so long since I've written I feel like I must shake off the rust!  Its always amazing the changes that life goes through.

My family has moved houses, added members, and started schooling.  Oddly enough it was playing a video game that has brought me back.  A guildie asked what we did and I popped in with "erotic author."  Which, of course, was met with shock and quick requests for further information.  It reminded me that I have neglected my fans, you dear readers, and it reminded me how much fun I had writing for you.  So today I am reloading this dusty old blog.

I am blowing off my keyboard (hehe! I said blowing!) and prepping my thoughts for devilishly sexy stories yet again.  I hope to have one for you soon, any requests?

Its Been A While...

Its been a bit since I was able to blog, I've been busy publishing new books and making some big changes in life, you may say I'm remixing it (hehe see what I did there with the sexy song of the week? Oh yeah!)

Sometimes we need to remix things in our life, but we also need to be aware that change comes with both good and bad.  The bad of this current change is it appears my ability to get blogging has been greatly reduced but the opportunity to spend time with my daughter and to focus on other portions of my life make it worth it.

I'm also adjusting my writing hours, attempting to be more productive and writing at specific times, the problem is this particular erotic author isn't the ideal example of following a set schedule unless its inflicted upon me by an outside party, but I'm willing to try and trying is all we can do sometimes.  :)

Hello Everyone!

I am deeply delighted you chose to visit today, whether you are with the Blog Hop, one of my fans, or if this is your first time.

A smidgeon about me, I'm a full-time erotic romance author with over 50 short stories out.  I have everything from raunchy cheerleader "porn" to sweet historical erotic romance (with, of course, lovely sex!).  I have been writing since I was a child, though it was much more innocent there has always been an element of the romantic.  I have never had a book where the character doesn't progress partly out of love.  I am a mother, a wife, and an artist.

For the blog hop I have decided to give away one of my books (Deep: A Rape Fantasy) and a $10 gift card to your choice of Smashwords, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.  Simply place your name, preferred gift card vendor, and email in the comments below this blog for an opportunity to win!

Deep: A Rape Fantasy is the first of a story-heavy series about a school teacher, Alysson Jennings, and her best friend Micah Noble.

When Micah asks Lyssie about her deepest darkest fantasy, he isn't expecting her to talk about rape!  The two discuss the different aspects of her fantasy, and Micah decides he wants to be the one to give it to her!

Each of this (currently) six part series brings a hot, dark, and steamy relationship to new levels and has the characters dealing with psychological and physical trauma.

Thanks so much for visiting, I hope you have a hot and steamy summer and a fun time exploring the rest of the blog hop!

                               Kisses,
                                     Lesa
P.S. Be sure to look around the "All Lesa's Works" tab to the left - if you don't see something you like email me - I love a challenge!

Business....

7/9/2013

Its been a while since I've written a "business" blog, but for those that like that aspect of it, I figured I'd throw it out there.

About three months ago I hunkered down with the huge book on how to format your work for Smashwords, took a day, and uploaded a book.  Then a few days later I uploaded another, and another until today I have just about 20 books up at Smashwords, and all of them are in the premium category save one which is still pending review.

In those three months I have brought in a good chunk of income.  In fact that income is close to what I make on B&N with 50+ books out.  I have found that I have many returning readers in Canada, a few in Australia, and that my books on Kobo are selling beautifully, and picking up on Sony.

There are a few things about SW that I am not in love with one is the reports on book sales.  That's a bear all the way through, and I really don't know if my current payment is 3 months, 2 months, or 3 months, but SW only haha.  I still will need time to figure out the timing and how things flow.  The other thing that's difficult is there is no "set payout per book."  For example:

Deep: A Rape Fantasy - Kobo Sale - 1.69
Deep: A Rape Fantasy - SW Sale - 2.43
Deep: A Rape Fantasy - SW Sale - 2.46
Deep: A Rape Fantasy - B&N Sale = 1.80

It makes for a bear putting it into my spreadsheets and attempting to check and balance my paychecks.  But would I give up this massive increase to sales because of it?  HELL NO!!!!

The other thing - oddly enough, is that SW doesn't scream professional to me.  The website is. . . too simple?  I sent my mother there to buy a book (she likes buying them to support me even if she doesn't read them), and her first question to me was "can I trust this site?"  Its a shame, because the database and searching seems to be one of the best out there, but the simplicity of the design looks almost like a quickly thrown together blog.  Again - totally not worth abandoning them for.

With the fact that the formatting has become so easy to me, broken down in simple easy to remember steps, the big boost in sales, the distribution to other major retailers, the knowledge that Mark Coker fought for Indie Authors against censorship with Paypal .  . . I won't be going away anytime soon,
